Great food! Everything that was set in front of us disappeared almost instantly. Definitely worth the trip from our hotel in NMB!

This place is a nice little hole in the wall. Cozy, quaint and full of memorabilia. The food was very good, I had the Jagerschnitzel with spetzle and red cabbage. Good flavors, the champagne dressing on the salad was delicious and the fresh pumpernickel bread was nice and warm. For dessert, the Black Forest cake was absolutely rich and decadent. My wife said try it with the Warstein Dark for an excellent flavor combination. The atmosphere is kitschy, but it is a nice place with great food. I recommend checking it out if you're in town.

Good German restaurants are hard to find and this may not look like much when you drive up other than a watering hole for Myrtle Beach tourists... I only went inside based on the reviews I saw and my desire to have one good German food - I am glad I stayed and ate. The earlier reviewer was very accurate in describing the physical setting and the bothers.... LOL - You will need to experience this for yourself! Remember those smoked turkey legs you get from the State Fair? Well if you love that taste, you will love the German styled smoke pork chops... Definitely not a normal eating experience for the beach.... Just watch the bill when you get it as one of the brothers added way too much gratuity to the bill but I just ignored it and paid it anyway.... LOL

Love this place! Just ate here for the first time sorry it took us so long to get here. We live 45 minutes south and Bodo's is worth the drive. Food is excellent! Service was too. Will certainly be back and won't take so long this time. Also....comment to Margaret P....you really should eat at a restaurant before you give it a terrible review. Note..parking is free behind the restaurant....you parked next door which is not their parking lot. I think you missed out on some fine German food!

Ate there for the first time last night. I enjoy a good hole in the wall restaurant & this was that. Salad & pumpernickel bread was very good. Beer was good. Jagerschnitzel, champagne kraut, & spetzel (excuse my spelling) was tasty. Portions were good size. Service was friendly but slow to get the check. Would have given 4-5 starts but I will now explain why I'm not. We waited a long time for our check & it never came so we went up front to pay. I noticed an additional $12+ on the bill. When I asked "JB", our server, about it he explained that he was ringing up 4 different people at the same time and must have made a mistake. Another female worker there chimed in & made a comment about JB not being able to add. JB mentioned that he's had several complaints about mischarging & it must have been the "old" cash register. He kept adjusting the total, and saying "my friend", "my friend", and "I got your back". He had my back all right, because when I left I realized I still overpaid by a couple of bucks! Either JB is really bad at adding or he's running a racket. I think it's the latter. I googled the tax rate in Myrtle Beach & it was much less than what he was charging. And, in all the "confusion" , I ended up forgetting my box of left-overs on the counter. I won't rush to come back. If you go, bring your calculator.

Dined here last night. Everything was superb. I always rate restaurants by the overall dining experience. This was a great one. The decor is somewhat quirky, but the food and service were memorable. Highly recommended. Col. P, Va Beach

We wanted to take our out of town friends to a German restaurant so we chose Bodo's because most of the ratings looked like this restaurant was a winner! I called for reservations about 5:10pm (because they open @ 5pm) to see if I needed reservations and they said yes. So I asked for 6pm and the lady on the phone asked if we could be there by 5:45pm and we were. There were only a few people there and were seated right away and sat there for 20 minutes for anyone came to our table. We ordered our drinks and our meals and 45 minutes later we asked if we could have our salads. The lady snapped at us with a loud voice and said we only have 6 eyes, 6 hands and 3 mouths and working as fast as they can (still half of the tables were empty). About 7:10pm we got our meals and it the red cabbage tasted like it came from a can, the gravy tasted like it was from a can also. I won't go into the other foods because it all was not good! My wife and my friend's wife ordered the potato pancakes, the bottoms of both of their pancakes was black, burnt black! That's when complained to the owner guy and he said "What do you want me to do"? My friend's wife had one with her meal so it was half of her meal and couldn't eat it and my wife had two in her meal which she ate one. I told him "Would you eat this crap" and he said "Yes, I like mine crispy" and I said "What about the black burnt ones" and he says "I like mine crispy" and I told him you know how to avoid a mistake and you're a lousy businessman! Customers got an earful and I wonder if they were enjoying their food as well! The jerk only knocked off $10 off the bill but it's not about the money, it's about their product and the way they treat their customers! I'm not a fussy person and don't give reviews unless a business is really substandard, don't go here and look past those 4&5 Star reviews and read closely to the reviews that are low scoring, they are more accurate!

The place is run by two brothers, Axel and Brodo. They are delightfully quirky hosts who cook some amazingly good German food with friendly service. The Jagershcnitzel was superb. The mushroom gravy was perfect; subtle and creamy. The sauerbraten was so tender and delicious that forks were flying around the table to get a sample. The sides were top notch... Simply the best German place I've ever eaten at. Highly recommended.

  • Tascha C.

I felt awkward because the lady who was running the place started off by being rude. I never review usually, but I don't want other people to fall into the trap of believing the 4/5 stars. It was pretty messy and the food was okay. Very small. Instead of a hole in the wall, it is really just a hole...

Bodo's is one of my and my husband's favorite restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area. This year for vacation we stayed in Ocean Isle but made the drive to visit again. Had the potato pancakes (a must!) to start. I had Wienerschnitzel with kraut & spetzel, and hubby had the Schnitzel Holstien with kraut & German potato salad. Everything was amazing, as it always is! Love everything about the place, the staff, the food, and atmosphere. Like being at grandmas house. A must visit for anyone who loves german food.

We started with the Potato Pancakes. They were fantastic. Our meals were just as good. What sets this restaurant apart from others are the decorations and the friendly staff. We felt like part of the family! A great meal and a fun place to eat!

I found this restaurant on yelp and we decided to give it a try. Well, you have to get over the outside of the place, which can be a little off putting. But, you must go in and at least try the potato pancakes. They were tremendous! Our dinners were well prepared and you can tell that they were homemade. It was a very authentic meal.

A wonderful dining experience. The man who owns the place- Axel- was also our server. He was friendly and explained briefly that his father (who also created the recipe for the dressing on the salad that came with the meal), opened the place in 1984. One of the signs in the place stated "The only German pub that plays Pink Floyd." This is the truth. We enjoyed a variety of sausages sampler and pork tenderloin while listening to the Rolling Stones. The place itself is full of character and down to earth charm. At the end of the meal, Axel asks his patrons to sign a memory book for him. Some of the people who signed, wrote about coming to this place for three decades and overhearing conversations of soldiers in the 80's,talking about the fall of the Berlin Wall. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for quality food, but pub like, earthy atmosphere.

Wanted to go here the first time I was in myrtle beach but didn't, when I came back I demanded to go here. Holy hell was I right to come here the food was authentic and delicious I had the smoked pork chops with spatzel and German potato salad. The chops were amazing cross between pork and ham is the taste. Axel was our server and has to be one of the best servers I have ever had. Simply put go here or your Schwachsinnig

Bodo is a nice, hole in the wall, warm service establishment clearly run by the third generation of proud German cooks! From the living room furniture to the crackling fireplace, you are invited to sit down, have a beer and enjoy family style dishes. Order carefully as the food is decadent, rich and full of the flavors of the Black Forest region. Try the specialty potato pancakes (worth the wait). We all enjoyed the sausage sampler, jaegersneitzel, rouladen and six of the nine sides. Top it all off with homemade apple streusel and you will enjoy your meal. Don't count the crabs, just have fun.

Awesome. Must visit in Myrtle Beach. Great food and great beer. Wife had sauerbraten and I had German sausage sampler. Both were outstanding. Will be back.

  • Bob R.

If you love authentic German food, prepared by 2nd generation Germans, then this is the place for you. The atmosphere is very homey and the proprietors really make you feel like you're part of the family. The German pancakes are not to be missed, as well as, a whole host various sausages. The beer isn't too shabby either!

  • Brent R.

Geman beer was outstanding and the food was even better! We got the Jagerschnitzel, Sauerbraten and the Goulash, all with red cabbage and German potato salad. The beef in the Sauerbraten is marinated for 7 days and is so tender it just falls apart in your mouth. Goulash was also outstanding, Jagerschnitzel was very good. The potato salad was incredible. Recommend that you finish off dinner with a piece of Black Forest cake...you won't be disappointed. It has a very eclectic atmosphere, but that just adds to the great dining experience. If you are ever in Myrtle Beach and are looking for good beer and/or German food, this is the place to go.

I am kind of surprised this place is rated as highly as it is. We called ahead and got a reservation for 4 + a highchair, and when we arrived, we were seated at a 4-top. Where was my 2-year old supposed to sit? So we were moved to a booth at the very front (where there was no air-conditioning). We were waited on by Axel, who was very nice, but I think he was stretched too thin. There were long periods of time where we didn't see him. I ordered the potato pancakes entree (comes with a salad with champagne dressing and pumpernickel bread, along with 2 sides- I chose home fries and red cabbage). The menu says that the potato pancakes take 20 minutes to prepare, and sure enough, when we called to make a reservation, they asked if anyone wanted to order the potato pancakes). The pancakes were HUGE, but I can't figure out why they would take such a long time to make. The salad was small. My husband got the Portabella Mushrooms -large portion of mushrooms lightly sauteed in a tasty garlic white wine sauce (which came with the same choices- he got spetzle and potato dumplings). His plate was so small! I knew that wasn't going to fill him up. My entree was about 2.5 times the size of his. We waited for a while for our check, and then waited some more for it to come back, all the while we were all really hot. REALLY HOT. MY husband is German, and he said that none of this tasted like any German food that he knows. Granted, the recipes might be from another part of Germany. In any case, wir wurden enttäuscht.

I have to be honest.... We did not eat here. We came to Myrtle Beach on Saturday and ate at Thai Cuisine(awesome) for dinner. Sunday morning we discover Bodo's and decide to go for lunch... Only when we got there, we discovered they are closed on Sunday and are only open for dinner. Sadly, we are leaving Monday at noon. So why the great rating? While I was reading the outstanding menu posted outside, the owner came out and chatted with us... His mother was from the same region of Germany as my mother. He was very friendly and the menu really did look authentic and outstanding!! And great German beer on tap.

Great beer, amazing food, and wonderful service. I gave them four stars, however, because the restaurant is a little cluttered and the tables need some repair. Overall, it looked like a mix between a dining room and a storage facility. This is truly a hole-in-the-wall place with great food! I will return.

This was the highlight of our beach trip for 2013. We read the reviews at thought lets try it. From the moment we parked we were welcomed with open arms by owner Bodo. The beers on tap were authentic German beers that were awesome. The potato cakes were to die for. This place gave us memories for a lifetime and I hope the tradition continues. Great food and service.

My husband and I chose to venture off the beaten path during out stay at MB. We love German food so we were excited when we found this gem on Yelp. We didn't call for reservations but were seated right away when we arrived around 7. We started off with the Goulash soup with beef tips. It was really thick and delicious...very well seasoned. Next we had salad. It was a typical iceberg/tomato salad...very crisp. I ordered the Weisswurst plate. It was amazing. It had a very mild flavor. I had the side of potato salad and red cabbage. I really enjoyed the potato salad. My husband ordered the Bauerwurst with sauerkraut and potato salad. He ate everything and didn't have one complaint. For dessert we ordered the apple strudel which came with ice cream. We really enjoyed everything. The atmosphere was authentic and welcoming. Our waitress was very kind and personable. We did meet the owner Axel who was born in Germany for anyone questioning the authenticity of the food. We really enjoyed everything from the atmosphere, food and staff. We will return.

Ok, so I am genuinely exited about reviewing this place... I was here in March (Easter weekend) with my fiancee and we LOVED hanging out at Bodo's. If I ever make that hellacious drive back to MB from the ATL, we will definitely be eating here again. When we saw on their sign that they were a genuine German restaurant with German beers on tap, we knew we were going to be stopping in (did I mention I'm 50% German myself?). We didn't have any intentions of staying for dinner -- but ended up staying for hours and having a blast! When we walked in, Axle and his family (sister, brother, who knows who else from his clan) were all grouped around a table up front, going through old family photos. Axle was friendly and welcoming and got us some beers as we sat on bar stools and soaked up the place -- the decor is amazing, there's a living room/fireplace set up in one area, almost all the table chairs are rolling desk-style and it's kitschy and funky all over the place. As we sat through another round of beers, we decided to get an app and ordered the escargot. It was delicious! Axle mentioned that meatloaf was the night's special, so we decided to split it. Each and every aspect of the meal was so tasty, and I only wish I had room to try other items on the menu (but I wasn't scared to bring a piece of German chocolate cake on the road). We talked with Axle and the other staffers about music, Myrtle Beach, Germany, Atlanta and all kinds of topics throughout dinner, as we were one of two tables in the place. I think my favorite aspect of our time there was the Johnny Cash album, sung in German (yes, by Johnny himself). Thanks for a great meal and a great time! Hope to see you again one day (next time you guys come to the ATL for a visit to Patak's, hit us up!).

There are only a few places to get real German in the area - this is the best on the south side of the beach. It feels like you're eating at someone's house in Germany because you're eating at someone from Germany's house. And it is indeed authentic homestyle German perhaps of the middle-Germany variety moreso than the mountains. It's incredibly casual and comfortable though a touch too cozy for some. Cook even shared a few prep secrets with me! You'll not want to bring wild kids who can't stay put here. Nor will you enjoy if you never venture far from one cuisine. But, if you'd like some real German food at a decent (but not cheap) price and perhaps a German beer (or two) then this is some good eating. It's also worthy of a stop just to enjoy a beer after a hot day at the beach. Way different environment than your other options in town. Don't restrict yourself to sausage and schnitzel! There's a lot of really good food on the menu. If you're not sure what to get - ask.

Salad and pumpernickel bread was outstanding. Really enjoyed salad dressing. Main meal, Yager schnitzel was tender, large with copious amount of mushroom gravy. Red kraut was tasty and spetzal was done well. Large portions and cooked well. Good Germany food. I spent 7 years in Germany, so I know!

  • J T.

Outstanding, authentic German food. One of the most traditional German experiences you'll find this side of the Atlantic. The food is great and the waiter/owner is a true character. I can think of a better place to eat in Myrtle Beach.

  • Jennifer T.

This place is a riot! The owner, the decor, food and beer all make for a fun, interesting, and delicious dining experience. The restaurant is definitely in the dive category, but we happen to love these types of places over the touristy, corporate places that are in the area. They have a variety of German beers to choose from. If you aren't sure what you want, just tell the owner what you like better-- dark or light- and he'll get you something. The food was very enjoyable too. We had the wurst sampler, the jagerschnitzel, and the goulash. All were very good. Portions are a good size, but not so big that we couldn't finish all of our food.

    (4)
  • Greg L.

This little mom and pop German restaurant knew how to make a proper "stick to your bones" German meal. The staff is friendly and a little odd. But back to the reason I wanted to come... I had the jaegerschnitzel! It's pretty much like a country fried steak but with pork, beaten flat, and covered in mushroom gravy. Got the spaetzle and red cabbage too. Mmmm, mmmm good. I was thankful that the good wife found this place. The place may look a little ragged around the edges but after a Warsteiner or two you'll be feeling fine. I recommend it.

  • Erin S.

We came here because we wanted a more "home town" restaurant when we were staying in Myrtle Beach. We could have not been more pleased! This odd little restaurant was warm and inviting and the food was delicious! I had the goulash and my husband had the jaegerschnitzel. They were both so good! If we are ever in Myrtle Beach again, we will be coming here!!!

When ever my husband and I are in Myrtle Beach, we always make it a point to go to Bodo's at least once, but usually ends up being majority of the evenings we are visiting. What a fantastic find. Great people, great food, great beer. The kind of place where you are comfortable enough to just hang out.

We were there just recently in the off-season, and the whole family loved it. The owner waited on us and was very friendly. My daughter is fascinated with Germany and the language, and he spoke to her in German and allowed her to show off her (limited) language skills. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the German beer. The food was awesome. Everything was delicious, and I tried most everything on my family's plates. Normally I don't care for German Potato Salad - here it was warm and SO good! My only regret is that I was too full to try the Apple Strudel. I'm sure it would have been amazing. As others have said, the service can be a bit slow and the phrase "delightfully quirky" certainly fits, but I love places like that. So much more fun than a typical chain restaurant. We will most certainly be back next time we are in Myrtle Beach!

No doubt this is a unique place. History on the wall in the form of guest signatures and photos. The two brothers that run it are certainly characters. They interact well with the customers. Unfortunately I can not say the same for the food. I went in with 6 other hungry men after a long day of golf. We ordered a few appetizers. The were pretty tasty but scarce in portion. Therefore way over priced. I have no doubt my very small salad was grabbed out of a plastic bag one can buy at any grocery store. My main dish of jagerschnitzel was bland and dry. The small portion of mashed potatoes was disappointing as well. This dish was $16.99. They can't tell me the prices are based on a high overhead. The building is old and dirty. MB must have laxed building safety codes. All the drop cieling panels are filthy and bowed like they are ready to fall to the floor. There is a cieling vent in the middle of the dinning room the is filthy and hanging by a thread. Sorry to the brothers but I would never eat here again.

went there last nite with friends who heard this was the place for German Food...well, after dining there, we all agreed this not to be the case.., yes, the hosts are quirky but thats about it, I had the Jageschnitzel, the sauce was ok, the portion for the price was out of line, the meat itself was very thin and almost mushy, the german potato salad tasted like warm sliced potatos,no flavor, the red cabbage was ok but i wondered if it came out of a jar??? My wife's meat loaf was interesting, the texture was compressed and almost had a liver taste,,frozen and then reheated with gravey??? Hard to say but not meatloaf I'm used to...the other couple both were not impressed with their dinner, esp for the price,,,I guess we should have been a little suspicious when we were the only ones in the dining room for most of the time we were there,..its spring break, the place should have been packed...drinks, selection limited and high priced, didn't try any beer...all in all, well, we went there, we tried it, but I would not go back...sorry guys...

What a interesting little place that we stumbled upon last month on a ridiculously rainy night. We were the only diners, it was pretty late and we found the food quite good. The owner, a bit eclectic to say the least, was quite friendly. I thought it was a bit pricey but then again it could have been all of the great German beer i drank. Will return.

Love the hidden treasures and this is definitely one. The inside is not how you would expect for a German restaurant with lots to look and talk about through dinner. The food was amazing!!!!!! The service was great. The sampler was very good portioned. Beer was tasty as expected. And the apple strudel was soooo good! Will be a return visit in future for sure.

The food was horrible. The chicken, veal, and pork schnitzel all tasted the same. It was a huge let down to go to this creepy, dirty, over-decorated, claustrophobia--inducing place only to receive horrendous food. How can you mess up egg noodles? If you want to get drunk, this is the place for you. If you want dinner, go somewhere else!

My wife and16 month old son had a wonderful time here. It id's truly a family place that is family oriented. Axle and his sister do a marvelous job. We had the potato pancakes and the special which was peek tenderlion and meatloaf. The German potato salad was amazing. This place is worth going to and eating the great European fare.

First off, do yourself a favor and ignore the reviews written by tourists who clearly have no conception of what Myrtle Beach really is. - Supposedly this place is in the wrong part of town - WHAT?! The boardwalk and downtown strip is literally a block away! LITERALLY - they're both across the street. MB isn't some glitzy town where everything is sunshine and rainbows, so yes oh my god there are poor people who live nearby, god help us, but it gets a hell of a lot worse than where Bodo's is. - Oh, a dive bar wasn't perfect for little kids?! SHOCK. You were uncomfortable that it wasn't a national chain? The decor was unique? Additional shocker, but local places DO EXIST here, too, and not everywhere should look like McDonalds. Folks like that, either get over yourselves, or please stick to the Calabash buffets and chain crap everywhere, everywhere, everywhere else in this town. Anyways, this place is great. The decor is flat out insane - really, really crazy overwhelming and it rules. I kinda gave up on figuring any of it out and just tried to take it all in as a whole. Food was excellent. Salad, bread, full entree and two sides for $30 - pretty reasonable. Great schnitzel. Several German beers on tap. And the service was good. They knew the folks drinking at the bar, by name, and knew their stories. That means something. And they had a guest book! Cmon - you think any of the crap at Broadway at the Beach - Hard Rock Cafe - has a guest book! NO, you're just a cover. You can have an actual conversation with the folks working here, and they rule.

Family run restaurant in a slightly edgy part of town. Once inside enjoy the unique decor and atmosphere. Good solid German food, cooked by the friendly Bodo himself and served up by the equally friendly waitress. Recommend the trio of German sausage accompanied by warm potato salad, mash or dumplings, washed down with some German beer.

Na ja is what I would say in German. Of course we know how it should be and it was close to the real thing. Service was really friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere is something special. We had schnitzel and dumplings and it was good. Not as exciting as some others are writing but good. A little pricy for the atmosphere but I guess if you want something different you pay for it. All in all worth the visit.

After being stationed in Germany, this food was not no where near authentic, this is for people who never had authentic German food, if you been to Germany please don't waste your time here!! I ate there 9/18/2015

Bodo's was exactly what we were looking for in German food. We've tried other German restaurants in myrtle beach but Bodo's was just a bit better. Our whole table ordered jagerschnitzel and it was perfect. The atmosphere was cozy with lots of interesting stuff on the walls. We will definitely choose Bodo's next time we get that German craving.

If you're looking for a basic chain restaurant similar to Applebee's or Olive Garden, this isn't it. However If you're looking for unique dinning atmosphere with amazing authentic German food this is where you need to be. The menu has a great amount of authentic dishes that are made with love and care. Also, like any true German establishment there are a variety of stelar beers on tap. The service is not the quick turnaround you'd find in a chain restaurant. The service here is much like being in someone's home. I would come back again anytime i'm down here even if it's just to stop in an have a beer. These types of restaurants are a rare find in a world of chain restaurants and tourist traps.

Then only reason I'm giving this place 5 stars is because I'm not allowed to give it 10. Although I rarely give top marks, Axel and his family are absolutely killing it with this off-the-beaten path hole-in-the-wall. It's small, so call ahead, and prepare any fancy-pants diners for the well-worn living room aesthetic, mis-matched chairs/tables, and dark, cluttered interior. It's all worth it, and the experience is second to none. It feels very much like small town restaurants I've visited in Germany, where you're not quite sure if you're in a restaurant or someone's house - mostly because the answer is often "both." Give in to the experience and you'll leave impressed The food is top notch, and the servers know it intimately, and are more than willing to help new friends find something that they'll enjoy. (They're also happy to adapt recipes and tweak things to taste.) The spaetzle was done to perfection; just firm enough to hold a tooth, and everyone at our large table was impressed with their meals. And Bodo's is SUPER kid friendly. Although I'm always looking to try new places, this is one of the few must-go places on my list. I will dine here every time I'm in Myrtle Beach, and may shed a tear if/when it closes. To be honest, I was surprised to find a gem like this in Myrtle Beach - it's the type place I'd expect to find in Portland or Brooklyn.

Bodo's is one of those places that you need to summon up the courage to walk into. The neighborhood seems dead and definitely the "wrong side" of town. Then, you have to summon up the courage to ignore the living room (complete with coffee table and TV) adjacent to the dining room (which only has 10 to 12 tables). Then you have to summon up the courage to order food despite the completely bizarre mixture of newspaper clippings, pictures and German landscape posters stapled and taped (yes) to the wall which also features a stained glass window on one side. Authentic German drinking music plays incessantly. Very tuba heavy. Then you order the food. And all is forgotten. It was an explosion in my mouth. I forgot what I ordered; we vacationed there back in September. But it was German sausage and it was GOOD. The beer selection is awesome too. The server was delightfully unmatched to the restaurant but he was great, too. Just a bizarre, fun, interesting little restaurant that I implore you to check out in MB. Prost!

Love love LOVED my experience here. Random, drive-by find we thought we'd check out for our Valentine's Day dinner. The outside is a little 'divey' looking, and walking in you are overwhelmed by a grandma's house feel (definitely not a bad thing here). Their menu presented a great selection of German beers (both on tap and in the bottle), in addition to a menu listing highly traditional food items. My boyfriend grew up eating his German Oma's cooking and was not disappointed with his order of rouladen. My jägerschnitzel was delicious and the potato pancakes we started the meal off with were no joke (split one and take one home). We finished off our meal with complimentary Valentine's Day chocolate covered strawberries and headed home STUFFED! We will DEFINITELY be back :)

So, we were looking for a local place and something unique. We decided to give Bodo's a shot. I do not recommend this restaurant for vacationers unless you know what you are getting into. When we called for our party of 8, the owner suggested we come at 7:30 instead of 6:30 that we wanted because another large party was coming in at 6:30. The restaurant only holds about 50 people. The food wasn't too bad but the options are pricey and strictly by the menu. Only one salad dressing, no kids meals and the potato pancakes are 2 for $15. I was asked if I wanted to order them when I made the reservation since they take a little longer to make. I knew we wanted to try one but asked if it was appropriate for a party of 8 and they suggested 2 orders. I really didn't realize that I was in for $30 before I ever walked in the door. Most entrees are priced from $13 to $19. I paid $15 for my 9yo to have frankfurters - she ate $1 worth. No refills on soft drinks - but they do offer them on tea and lemonade. If you are a small group, and you live German food, this is probably a good place. If you are a family trying to make sure everyone is happy and had options, keep looking. People were nice, but the place was run down and needs upkeep. The ceiling vent looked like it could fall on a woman's head while dining.

Delicious family recipes are the highlight of this family owned German restaurant. All the expected fare plus grandma's special recipes. Escargot, champagne kraut, and Grandma's meatloaf were delish. The strudel was the best we've ever eaten! It's great-grandma's recipe and she taught her great grandson to make it. Delightful evening in this little dive. German biers are excellent, too.

I am totally surprised that this place gets so many 5 ratings. We came here based on Yelp's 4.5 stars review and were totally disappointed. The best dishes here are the salad and the pumpernickel bread. The potato pancake and Goulaschluppe are ok but not great. The Schnitzel itself is below average, the portion is small. All the side dishes are not good at all including the spetzle and what can I say about the mushroom gravy but yuck. This is one place I will never come back and will not recommend to anyone. I gave this a two star vs one because I was able to eat them; will I eat them again, NO WAY.

First impressions were great when we parked next to Bodo's. The place looked like the biggest dive ever! I love dive bars...best food...great atmosphere...etc. Once I walked in I wasn't let down. Biggest dive ever! The place was covered wall to wall with stuff, when walked to the bathroom I saw tables set up with random office chairs in a living room. There was a tv and the owners laptop sitting out in use on a coffee table. It looked like someone's house setup like a restaurant. Loved it! As we were looking over the extremely authentic German menu we were greeted by Bodo himself! He gave us the specials and was really nice. Bodo's is a dive BAR and they don't get a lot of children in there. Still, they were overly accommodating and went the extra mile for my kids. They had a cigar box full of crayons (Awesome!) so the kids could draw on the paper tablecloth, they wrapped Saran Wrap over the plastic cups and put straws in to make a jerry rigged children's cup, and they offered to make half orders of anything on the menu for the kids since they didn't have a kids menu. My wife ordered the Schweineschnitzel, I had the Wienerschnitzel, and the kids split some a Chicken Schnitzel. I got German potato salad and Spetzle as sides. I tasted all 3 and they were fantastic! Very authentic. The German potato salad was amazing and the Spetzle was dead on. They even had homemade Pumpernickel bread which was also fantastic. After dinner my kids got to write their names on the walls in chalk and they loved it. I give Bodo's 4 Doubledays because they aren't really kid oriented and I write my reviews from that perspective. Still they were accommodating and very friendly. Great work....great food! Give Bodo's a shot if you are in Myrtle Beach in search of some excellent German food.

We saw this restaurant as we were driving around Myrtle Beach and then researched it on the web. We decided to go after reading the reviews here on Yelp and it was the beginning of many right decisions last night. When making the reservation we were asked if we wanted to pre-order the "favorite" appetizer, Potato Pancakes, and again based on the reviews we immediately said yes to a 1/2 order. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and informed that our appetizer was being prepared and would be ready shortly, which it was, and it was great! The next part was difficult, deciding what to order, but again based on the reviews we ordered the Beef Rouladen and the Jagerschintzel along with 4 different sides. This allowed us to share and try more choices and everything was great, For dessert we had the Apple Schnitzel and the German Chocolate cake which capped off a perfect meal. Being a fourth-generation German I have grown up with German foods and my wife learned a number of my great-grandmothers recipes. And while the preparations were not exactly the same, the results were: GREAT! We look forward to going back on our next visit to try items we could not try this time, especially the sausage sampler. We have visited many German Restaurants in the US and I have been in Germany a number of times, and the food here is AUTHENTIC!

Decent food in a place that hasn't been cleaned since 1984. I loved the decor, lots to look at! Potato pancakes were very good start. However they are very filling so come hungry. Next I had the wurst sampler with sauerkraut and German potato salad. The kraut is spot on excellent!! The wurst was also very good with gravy and fried onions. Fireworks of flavor from the 4 types of sausage. The potato salad was so so. I don't care for the bacon making it extremely salty. For desert was the apple strudel, which should have been a pass. Swing and a miss on that the strudel! Also disappointing that only 1 type of strudel is offered. All in all a good time. Don't be fooled by the looks if the place...its good stuff!!

Outstanding little place to eat. It's small, very casual, and just plain fun. And the staff is super friendly and sociable. I got the weinerschnitzel, German potato salad, and garlic green beans. And it comes with salad and fresh pumpernickel. Everything was awesome. And of course great German beers. This place definitely needs to be on your to-do list on your next visit to Myrtle Beach.

Go inside! Trust me! It's an eclectic establishment, feels like having dinner at your German grandma's house. The food is some of the most delicious bites I've ever had in my life!! Potato pancakes were to die for! I would make a return trip to Myrtle Beach just to eat here!!

This place was amazing. Kind of looks like a dive on the outside, but crazy authentic German food inside. Was a little pricey, but for the quality of the food, we thought that it was worth it.

We found this place through yelp and were not disappointed. I had the Axel Schnitzel with spaetzle and garlic green beans. Everything was excellent and our hosts were so much fun! My husband and kids (5 and 7) really enjoyed it too. One of the more fun meals we've had. It will be a must do on our next trip to Myrtle Beach.

Authentic German food! The potato pancakes are worth the trip. Don't be turned away by the look of the place. Looks like a dive BUT a dive with the best food. We are sorry we found this on our last night here. We would have eaten here every night!

Run as fast as you can away from this dump! We had second thoughts as soon as we pulled into the ghetto parking lot and saw that they charge you $6 to park in their own lot. We looked up at the building to see broken windows, chipped paint and dirt all over the rundown building and people fighting on the upstairs apartment deck. We decided the food could possibly still be good so we walked around to the front entrance where we were greeted by a homeless man sitting on the restaurant's front bench with an arsenal of prescription meds that he no doubt intended to sell to the other gentleman sitting there. He assured us the food was great and gave us a dirty, toothless grin. We were a party of 11 and two of us stepped in the front door to put our name in for a table and the place smelled of stale cigarettes and was covered wall-to-wall with clutter and dirt. There were only maybe 10-12 tables in the whole place and one of them was occupied. It was at this point that we definitely decided not to eat here, we were sure that someone would leave with a parasite of some kind. We stepped back outside to discuss with the rest of our party where we should go instead when the owner stepped out and asked, "You guys plan to eat here? Cus if you do, we're gonna have to rearrange things so you'll fit. This is a small place and we usually require reservations." Clearly he was not interested in accommodating us and we were fine with that. In conclusion, I should really give this dump ZERO stars - I can't believe they are open for business at all.

OK, don't be put off by the old look and stuff all over the walls. This place has some of the best German beer and food I have ever had. It is like you are at your Grandmother's house and she is serving your favorite home cooked meals; plus, tons of games to play while you wait for your food. Bodo's was the best restaurant we went to all week in MB.

Have been coming to Bodo's for many years while on vacation n MB. Had the Weinershnitzel which was very good. Red cabbage was too sweet. German potato salad was good but potatoes were over cooked. Potato pancakes were very good. Actually would have rated it higher but the prices were too high. Spent $250 not including tip for 6 people.

What a great and genuine experience. The food was terrific. The recommended German beers were outstanding. From the moment you walk in, you realize this is not the norm in restaurants. It felt like visiting with some old German friends in their living room (and I'm not kidding, there are couches and a TV in the middle of the dining room). And that is the way they treat you. Like family. We left feeling like we made new friends who happened to make great German food. If you're looking for refined, white table dining, this place is not for you. But if you want a dining experience you will remember for years, don't miss this hidden gem.

LOL

Col. P, Va Beach

Outstanding, authentic German food. One of the most traditional German experiences you'll find this side of the Atlantic. The food is great and the waiter/owner is a true character. I can think of a better place to eat in Myrtle Beach.

We started with the Potato Pancakes. They were fantastic. Our meals were just as good. What sets this restaurant apart from others are the decorations and the friendly staff. We felt like part of the family! A great meal and a fun place to eat!

Great beer, amazing food, and wonderful service. I gave them four stars, however, because the restaurant is a little cluttered and the tables need some repair. Overall, it looked like a mix between a dining room and a storage facility. This is truly a hole-in-the-wall place with great food! I will return.

Col. P, Va Beach

  • Sven S.

  • Sheri M.

  • Phillip S.

Prost!

Made our night. Beer was great and the food was out of this world! We will make it a point to go to bodos every trip to MBSC. You should too! Had the portobello mushrooms with potato salad and cabbage. Awesome meal.
